Self Expression Inspired By The Wild Places
Carol Nunan sees art as a form of conversation - a non-verbal conversation with herself, and between herself and the viewer. It is her way of drawing the viewer’s attention to the light, the sounds, colours, textures and patterns of nature she sees in the wild places. Her prints are a way of sharing her view of the world, in her attempt to create a connection with those who share her love of those wild places and wild things.
CHOOSING ART IS A FORM OF SELF EXPRESSION
Carol says, “I believe the art we choose to live with is also a form of self expression. When we choose a beautiful unique art piece, a painting, a print, a piece of ceramic, we do so because we have connected with something intangible that the creator has managed to communicate that speaks to us inside. When we make a conscious choice that we want to live with that piece, have it in our home, it brings unique character and personality to our living space ... and years of pleasure. It is art to feed our soul.
Art has the power to bring about a sense of peace and tranquillity, or drama, a play on light and colour. It connects us with a whole range of emotions and memory, an appreciation of the artist's talent or craftsman's skill. Quite often, it connects us to the people and places that matter to us.”
THE PROCESS
Carol’s prints are multi-layered. They contain layers of meaning in the layers of ink. Each layer builds to create a mood, a sense of atmosphere, through light, depth of colour, pattern and texture. As each layer is printed, there is always an unpredictable element of serendipity that leads her intuitively from one layer to the next until the print tells her it is finished. You will often find hidden surprises that beg closer inspection!
