About John

Dr John Lowrie Morrison OBE (Jolomo) was born in Glasgow in 1948 and trained at the Glasgow School of Art.


He worked in education for 25 years, taking up full time painting in 1997. In the last decade he has become one of Scotland's most successful living artists best known for his painting of the West of Scotland, filled with colour and passion.


In the 2011 New Year's Honours List John received an OBE for services to art and to charity in Scotland. He has also received Honorary Doctorates from the universities of the West of Scotland and Abertay Dundee. In 2005.


John established The Jolomo Foundation, a charitable body aimed at promoting and encouraging the painting of the Scottish landscape. 


Through The Foundation, the Jolomo Awards were launched in 2006 with the first Awards being made in June 2007 and then again in 2009, 2011 and 2013.


John is a long term supporter of many Scottish charities. In November 2012, John and his wife Maureen were invited by HRH The Princess Royal to become Vice Presidents of Carers Trust.


John lives and works in Tayvallich on Scotland's west coast.


He also has a second Studio in Ardnamurchan.
